The move comes a day after party leader Vaiko’s son Durai Vaiko was appointed as the headquarters secretary.
MDMK’s state youth wing secretary V. Easwaran has resigned from the party a day later. Durai Vaikos’ appointment, son of party leader Vaiko, as Headquarters Secretary.
In a statement posted on Facebook on Thursday, he said that he has worked for the MDMK for the past 28 years, and has led agitations for various issues related to Coimbatore district. He wrote, without explicitly mentioning the reasons, “when contradictions begin to arise between the general mindset of the movement and my actions, it is neither good for me nor for the movement to continue my work.”
Mr. Easwaran also announced that he would form a new, non-political organization called ‘Marumalarchi Makkal Iyakkam’, which would be used to “purify politics.”
talking to Hindu, he said the way Mr. Durai Vaiko was appointed and projected as the next-in-line leader, he was “not in agreement”. “He is [Mr. Vaiko] Have you been unable to produce a single leader to lead the party all these years?” Mr. Easwaran asked.
The non-political organization will be launched in a week, Mr. Easwaran said. He said that he has just formally submitted his resignation to Mr. Vaiko and conveyed his decision to senior party functionaries and through the media.
