“Meaning of Hindu Vulgar Words”: Karnataka Congress Leader Kick Storms

“What is the relation of the word Hindu with India?” He asked.

Top Karnataka Congress leader Satish Lakshmanrao Jarkiholi has courted a huge controversy by saying that the word “Hindu” has an obscene connotation and does not have its origin in India. It is from Persian, he said.

“Where did the word Hindu originate? Is it ours? It is Persian, from the region of Iran, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan. What is the relation of the word Hindu to India? Then how can you accept it? It should be Have an argument,” he said.

The video is going viral on social media, with the ruling BJP calling it an insult and provocation to Hindus.

“You would be ashamed to know the meaning of the word Hindu. It is obscene,” he says in the video, asking viewers to “check Wikipedia” to find out where the word came from.

Mr. Jarkiholi is the working president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, and has also served as the Forest Minister in the previous Congress government. He was speaking during an event in Belagavi district on Sunday when he made the remarks.
