Medical degree offered by Singhania University illegal, rules NMC

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a warning to medical candidates against a ‘misleading’ advertisement published by Singhania University in Rajasthan regarding MBBS admission. As per the official notice of NMC, the admission will be considered as invalid if a medical student takes admission in the university. The NMC has recommended all the students, parents and members of the general public to check the status of medical colleges before enrolling in any of them.

In its notification dated October 28, the NMC indicated that the commission had just learned that Singhania University was accepting applications for its MBBS program as well as other medical programmes. In a statement, the NMC said, “The said institute in its advertisement published in various newspapers has claimed that in the case of IGNOU, the High Court has held that there is no provision in the Medical Council of India Act which authorizes and empowers the BOG. Is- MCI will grant permission or recognition to IGNOU to enable it to take admission in MBBS and other medical courses and provide education. The said institution mischievously claims that it is covered by a judgment of the High Court, without any reason Without mentioning the title and the court which pronounced it.

The notification further claimed that such claim is false, baseless and completely against the law passed by the Parliament.

It must be underlined that the logic of Singhania University violates the NMC Act of 2019 and the Indian Medical Council Act of 1956 as well as the rules established by both the Acts.

The NMC recommends that applicants be wary of any admissions made by any institution that offers modern medical programs, such as MBBS or diplomas in several areas of medicine. Without the prior consent of the NMC, applicants may not be admitted to MD, MS, DM, or MCh programs, and those admitted may not obtain the recognized medical credentials required to practice.
