Meet Rajinder Gupta, who built ₹17,000 cr empire from earning ₹130 per day

Dubbed “Punjab’s Dhirubhai Ambani” for creating a conglomerate worth 17,000 crore, Rajinder Gupta is now a self-made business magnate.

As per the most recent annual wealth lists, Gupta was the richest person in Punjab and has a current net worth of over 12,368 crore, reported Zee News.

Apart from this, Gupta serves as both the Chairman of the Corporate Advisory Board of Trident Limited and the Chairman of the Trident Group. In 2007, he was given the Padma Shri by the President of India for his exceptional work in the trade and industry sectors.

Among others, he was even appointed Chairman of the Board of Governors at Punjab Engineering College in Chandigarh. And serves as Chairman of the Advisory Council of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI).

This is not the end, Gupta is a representative of trade, industry, and commerce on the Board of Governors of the Punjab Bureau of Investment Promotion.

Initial journey:

Gupta started his journey doing odd jobs producing cement pipes and candles for a meager 30 per day, In the 1980s, he decided to take his chances and built Abhishek Industries in 1985. Post this, he founded a spinning mill in a joint venture in 1991 that paid off well.

Following this, Gupta transformed his business from his firm’s divisions in Punjab and MP to a global leader in the textile, paper, and chemical sectors.

Now Gupta’s Trident Group’s customers include Walmart, JCPenney, and Luxury and Linen.

However, citing family and health concerns, Gupta 64-year-old Gupta left Trident’s board of directors in 2022 but is the group’s ‘chairman emeritus’ with its headquarters in Ludhiana.
