Meta plans to cut thousands of jobs this week in new round of layoffs: report

Last Update: March 07, 2023, 09:54 IST

Meta Platforms Inc will cut thousands of jobs in a new round of layoffs this week, just months after Facebook-parent slashed more than 11,000 people from its workforce, Bloomberg News reported Monday.

Citing people familiar with the matter, the report said the new round of job cuts is driven by financial goals and is far from “flat”.

Contacted by Reuters, Meta declined to comment on the Bloomberg report.

Last month, The Washington Post newspaper reported that Meta was planning to cut jobs in a restructuring and downsizing effort.

At the time, Meta declined to comment, but in a series of tweets, spokesman Andy Stone cited several previous statements from Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg to suggest that more cuts were on the way.

Meta’s mass layoffs in November, which cut more than 11,000 jobs, were the largest last year and the first in the company’s history. Other tech companies, including Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc and Microsoft Corp, have also cut thousands of jobs.
