The project aims to preserve the cultural heritage of the fishing communities in Kerala

The Inter-University Center for Social Science Research and Extension (IUCSSRE) under Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam has entered into an academic collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania on the Kerala Maritime Community Project.

In the Department of Classical Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, Thomas F. The project, headed by Tartarone, has been roped in as co-investigators with IUCSRE’s P. Sanal Mohan and Sujit Kumar Parayil.

The project, which seeks to involve several traditional fishing communities in Kerala, aims to preserve the fading cultural heritage of these communities in the form of physical and virtual open-source archives, apart from the lives affected by disruptions in the coastal environment. To document the changing methods of , The Kerala Council for Historical Research (KCHR) will also be associated with the project.
