Microsoft may have good news for these Windows users

San Francisco: Tech Giants Microsoft will eventually allow windows Users to Install PC Games from Microsoft Store Or xbox Game Pass for PC to any folder of your choice with unrestricted access.

According to The Verge, the move will allow PC gamers to access the game’s folders and modify them freely, or let Windows users freely move the game to any folder or drive of their choice.

The report states that these changes are part of an Xbox app update for Windows, which is currently being tested internally.

Xbox app update will finally address a major pain point of installing games from Xbox Game Pass for PC, where players will run into issues with the restricted Microsoft Store windows apps folder, or the inability to fully control where the games were installed.

While Microsoft has previously supported mods for some titles in the Microsoft Store, opening up folder access to games will now enable more games to support the mod, without players needing to enable it in-game.

The report states that the Microsoft Store has traditionally restricted access to games installed using Windows-based folder permissions, making it difficult to backup games or move them freely.

Other PC game launchers like Steam or Battle.net Allow players to backup games and restore and verify them.

Microsoft’s new Xbox app update includes an option to verify and repair files, which will likely be used to back up games. There are also new options to browse where the files are installed, change the drive where the games are installed, and choose a custom folder for the install.
