On the occasion of the first anniversary of Flying Sikh Milkha Singh and former Indian volleyball captain Nirmal Milkha Singh, a prayer meeting and remembrance meeting was organized by the Milkha family in Chandigarh on Sunday. “Talking about my parents is very difficult and emotional. We still feel the void and can’t believe they are no more with us. But I want to share with you an experience that I feel now With age and experience, we were blessed to be born in a house where we were given the right guidance and my parents taught us to always be humble. One day, when my mother was present, I asked my father , ‘Dad, why are you so determined and Mother so tender?’ He said, ‘Maavan thandiyan chavan, pio tatte gheo (mothers are like cold air while fathers are like hot ghee)’. “One thing that both my parents taught us was the importance of stability and balance in their lives. We often spend time with him as children and watch him play various roles as a sportsman, administrator, and father and mother to us. And he always told us to be balanced and steady in our approach towards life. It is the greatest gift for each of us from our parents and will always be with us in our life. Among those who paid tribute were BJP Leader Sanjay Tandon, PGTI President Uttam Singh Mundi, Golfer Harmeet Kahlon besides some young golfers and athletes. “Milkha sir was also special to the golfing community and he always encouraged young golfers. Whenever PGTI hosted an event in Chandigarh, Milkha sir made sure he was there to compete in the Pro-Am and make professional golfers happy,” Mundi said.
