Minor boy arrested for throwing firecrackers in train in Kozhikode

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has allegedly let off some minor boys who threw firecrackers in the Maveli Express at the Vellayil railway station in Kozhikode on the night of August 13.

According to sources, on the night of August 14, Vellayil police station personnel patrolling the area arrested him from the railway station premises. Although there were three boys in the group, one of them managed to escape from the area. Firecrackers were recovered from two others. The police claim that they were planning to throw them in trains again. The boys were later handed over to the Railway Protection Force, who questioned them and left them with their parents.

Firecrackers were hurled at the Kozhikode railway station as Union Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan and Public Works Minister PA Mohammed Riyas boarded a Mangaluru-Thiruvananthapuram-bound train, raising security concerns. When the train passed through Vellayil station, it was found that an incendiary object was thrown from the eastern side of the platform towards the general coach. It hit the leg of a passenger, fell outside the coach and exploded. When the train reached Kozhikode station, the passenger informed the RPF personnel about the incident.

Soon after, the RPF inspected the Vellayil station premises. The local police also searched the area with the help of bomb squad, but nothing was found. A case has been registered at Vellayil police station.
