‘Mirzapur’, Konkona Sen Sharma win big at Asian Academy Creative Awards 2021

Amrita Subhash and Umesh Bisht’s Netflix film ‘Paglat’ also won for ‘Bombay Begums’

Amazon Original “Mirzapur” along with actors Konkona Sen Sharma and Amrita Subhash have bagged the top honors at the Asian Academy Creative Awards 2021.

The awards ceremony held in Singapore on Thursday and Friday honored creative people working across various platforms in the Asia-Pacific region.

A total of 38 awards were given to Asian-made TV and streaming content.

Amazon Original “Mirzapur” Season Two won Best Original Program by a Streamer/OTT category.

Show’s producer Puneet Krishna dedicated the award to actor Bramhaswaroop Mishra, who was found dead at his flat in suburban Versova on Thursday afternoon. He played the role of Lalit in the show.

“A heartfelt thank you to each and every actor and everyone who has worked hard behind the camera to make Mirzapur a memorable viewing experience for the audience. Asian Academy Creative Awards, thank you for recognizing our efforts.

“We would like to dedicate this award to Brahm Mishra, with whom we have worked, and only wish that he was here to share this moment with us,” Krishna said in a statement.

Aparna Purohit, Head of India Originals, Amazon Prime Video India also dedicated the award to Mishra.

“As we complete five years in India, our win at the prestigious Asian Academy Creative Awards is a confirmation of our relentless efforts to find and give a platform to the best stories, storytellers and talent.

“I would especially like to mention the actor, Brahm Mishra, who played the role of Lalit in the series and passed away this week in a sad way. Purohit said, the award is a tribute to him and the hard work put in by him and his co-actors and technicians to make the series what it is today.

Sen Sharma won the Best Actress award for her portrayal of the Bharti Mandlin “Gili Puchhi” segment of the Netflix anthology “Ajeeb Dastaan”.

Amrita Subhash was awarded the Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her portrayal of a bar dancer Lily in the Netflix series “Bombay Begums”.

“My first international award! Thank you to my team,” Subhash wrote on Twitter after his win.

Filmmaker Umesh Bisht’s Netflix film “Puglat” also won two awards – Best Original Screenplay and Best Sound Award.

“I am absolutely delighted and honored to have received this award. Thank you @AsianAcademyCr1 @sikhyaent @BTL_Balaji @guneetm @ektarkapoor @aachinjain @RuchikaaKapoor and my entire ‘Paglat’ family,” tweeted Bisht.

Best Actor in a Leading Role, Lee Jae-hoon went to the Korean series “Move to Heaven”, which also won the award for Best Drama Series.

His compatriot Lee Do-hyun took home the Best Actor in a Supporting Role trophy for “Sweet Home”, which also won Best Direction for Lee Yeung-bok.
