Mizoram teacher removes girl from front of class, sends her home in underwear, suspended

The girl’s mother told the authorities that her daughter was assaulted by a classmate and when she went to school to complain about the incident, a scuffle broke out between her and the teacher.

A female teacher, who took off the uniform of a six-year-old girl and sent her home at a government school in Mizoram’s Lunglei district, was also suspended from service on Monday.

An official of Samagra Shiksha said that the teacher was arrested on Saturday after the District Child Protection Unit lodged an FIR at Lunglei police station.

According to officials, the incident took place on August 25, when a primary school student in Thangpui village was sent home by the teacher by taking off her school uniform.

The girl’s mother told the authorities that her daughter was assaulted by a classmate and when she went to school to complain about the incident, a scuffle broke out between her and the teacher. Then the mother told the teacher that she would take her daughter back from school.

The officer quoted the student’s mother as saying, “The teacher allegedly took off the child’s uniform in front of other students after the mother’s complaint and the child had to return home wearing only underwear.”

The incident had created a ruckus across the state over the weekend. Mizoram’s apex student body Mizo Jirlai Pawl also demanded the dismissal of the school teacher from service.
