Modern, big liquor contracts in Delhi from November 17; why over here

From November 17, there will be big and modern liquor shops in the national capital Delhi. Customers will get the convenience of visiting and choosing their preferred liquor brand. This will happen because of the change in the excise policy of the Delhi government.

Delhi’s new excise policy will mark the government’s exit from the retail liquor business. And, private sellers will get new licenses for retail sale of liquor from November 17.

An order issued by the Excise Department said, “The Government of NCT of Delhi has approved the New Excise Policy 2021-22, which is being implemented and the new retail licenses are slated to start from November 17, 2021.”

The new excise policy aims to transform the liquor trade in the capital and give more revenue to the government.

At present, Delhi government agencies run about 60% of the city’s 850 retail liquor shops. Under the new policy, the government has so far selected private firms for retail sale of liquor in 20 out of the total 32 zones.

The initial bid for retail liquor was sold in 20 zones 5,300 crores.

According to a senior excise official, the financial bids for the remaining 12 sectors are expected to open next week.

Sector-wise revenue of approx. 8,800 crore is estimated after the completion of the entire bidding process.
