Kanpur: Former UP cricket team captain and international cricketer Mohammad Kaif has been appointed as the chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association’s cricket committee, which includes Anil Mathur, Arvind Kapoor and Faisal Sherwani.
The members of the committee have formed the umpire committee which includes BD Shukla, Anurag Rathore and Tarun Kapoor.
In the Annual General Meeting held on December 30 last, the members had voted on various resolutions.
Contrary to expectations, no changes were made in the Junior Selection Committee which will continue for another session. The AGM, however, removed Arvind Kapoor from the chairmanship of the senior selection committee and appointed former UP batsman Ambareesh Gautam in his place.
Abhishek Singhania and Ashok Chaturvedi have been reappointed as directors of the UPCA, while Justice Shiv Kirti Singh has been appointed as Lokpal, Justice CK Prasad as Ethics Officer and AK Joti as Election Officer. In addition, the members also confirmed that Rajeev Shukla or otherwise as the President/Secretary would represent the UPCA in the BCCI.
Since the last AGM held on December 30 was virtual and since a rebel group had filed a petition in the High Court, Company Secretary Kunal Sippy did the ballot voting. After going through the process, they posted the result on the website of UPCA. Ballots were sent to all 98 members. He got 76 votes in the stipulated time, of which 74 were found valid.
For the UPCA elections, specifically to fill the vacant posts of President and Secretary, the AGM gave its consent for the elections to be held in August 2022, when the existing group of officers will complete their term, and fresh elections will be held thereafter. . All the posts, said a UPCA official.
He has justified the removal of one of the Apex Council members as he had attained the age of 70 years.
