Monsoon Fury To Valsad, Navsari Reel | Surat News – Times of India

Surat/Ahmedabad: Over 700 people were shifted to safer places in Navsari and Valsad districts after low-lying areas were flooded on Sunday as the river level rose due to incessant rains in south Gujarat.
Several low-lying areas of Valsad were inundated with water level rising rapidly in the Orsang river due to extremely heavy rains that occurred on Saturday night and Sunday morning. More than 400 people were evacuated from these areas. The rain water and the rushing river water ran into several residential societies, which were knee-deep in water.
The Kaveri and Ambika rivers have started flowing above the danger mark, so the administration is on alert in Navsari district as well.
“We are shifting people from low-lying areas and more than 300 people have been shifted to safer places. The operation is on with the help of a company of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), ”said District Collector Amit Prakash Yadav.
Chhota Udaipur And Narmada districts also recorded heavy rains, rivers are in spate and low-lying areas have been flooded.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places at Dang, Navsari and Valsad during the next five days.
The IMD bulletin said that heavy to very heavy rains are very likely to occur over many other districts of South Gujarat and Saurashtra during this period.
Several dams and rivers in south and central Gujarat and Saurashtra region have received heavy rains since Saturday. Keeping the concerned administration on alert, many rivers are flowing close to the danger mark.
Dharampur According to the data shared by the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC), the taluka of Valsad district and Vansada in Navsari received 216 mm and 213 mm of rain, respectively, in the 24-hour period till 6 am on Sunday.
Navsari, Chikhali and Khergam talukas received 197 mm and 194 mm of rain respectively during the same period, while Kaprada in Valsad recorded 194 mm of rain.
As per the data, Ahwa, Waghai and Subir of Dang district received 180 mm, 160 mm and 141 mm of rainfall respectively, Umarpada 179 mm in Surat and . were recorded Vyara Tapi district received 106 mm of rain.
Meanwhile, normal life came to a standstill in tribal districts of Chhota Udepur and Panchmahal districts on Sunday, while Bodeli received 400 mm and Pavi Jetpur received 250 mm of rain in just eight hours.
An NDRF team started evacuating and rescuing people in Bodeli town while efforts were on to reach remote areas, many of which have been cut off due to flooding of roads.
Low-lying areas in Jambughoda taluka of Panchmahal district have also been flooded. The region received 325 mm of rain.
