Monsoon havoc in Pakistan kills over 150 – Times of India

Islamabad: The ongoing monsoon rains have claimed the lives of more than 150 people across the country. Pakistanwith most deaths in the south Sindh and south west Balochistan Province National Disaster Management Authority (NDMAPakistan’s disaster control agency said 88 women and children were among the dead.
According to the NDMA, at least 26 people have died in Sindh so far, while in Balochistan 62 people – 23 women, 15 men and 24 children – have lost their lives in rain-related tragedies. Incessant rains have also damaged homes, roads, bridges and power stations across the country.
NDMA said that hundreds of people have been rendered homeless as their houses collapsed in the rains and floods, more than 600 houses were washed away in the floods in various districts of Balochistan. Authorities have called in paramilitary forces to drain water from the flooded roads and help with the evacuation efforts. People complained of power failure for more than 36 hours.
The Sindh government has imposed a rain emergency in Karachi after several areas and main roads of the city were submerged in water on Monday, leaving people and cars stranded for hours. Some residents of Karachi said that they were forced to leave their cars on submerged roads and went into waist-deep water. The national capital Islamabad and East Punjab province also received heavy rains.
