Monsoon rains likely in Karachi from July 1: PMD – Henry Club

Karachi: According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the port city is likely to receive the first monsoon rains of this season from July 1 to July 5.

According to a statement issued by the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain/thundershowers in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Dadu and other cities from next Friday.

The PMD said that moist currents from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are likely to enter the upper parts of the country from June 29 (tomorrow) which may intensify by the end of this week and spread over the southern parts of the country.

The Meteorological Department has forecast that the country is likely to receive the first monsoon rains from June 30.

Under the influence of the weather system, rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur over Islamabad, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar and other parts of the country from June 30 to July 4.

Urban flooding due to heavy rains may occur in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad from July 2 to 4 and in Karachi and Hyderabad from July 3 to 5, the statement said.

The Meteorological Department has advised all the concerned officials to be alert during this period. PMD advised fishermen to be careful due to rough sea conditions between July 3 and 5.

There is also a possibility of flash floods in the local drains of Kashmir, Khujdar, Lasbela, Naseerabad, Awaran, Barkhan and Kohlu during the forecast period.

The Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rains could lead to landslides in Kashmir, Galiyat and Mari.

It also advised travelers and tourists to be extra cautious during the forecast period.
