On the 14th day of the monsoon session of Parliament, the Lok Sabha saw its first adjournment as opposition members continued to raise slogans against the “use of ED” by the government. When the Question Hour was going on in the lower house, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm due to continuous protests by the opposition members, which was adjourned till 12 noon due to protests on the same issue, At present, the Question Hour is going on amid loud sloganeering.

The Rajya Sabha is set to consider and pass the Family Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2022, on Thursday. Lok Sabha will take up the Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 for consideration and passing. The lower house has also listed a discussion on ‘the need for promotion of sports in India and the steps taken by the government’ under Rule 193.

The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2022 by voice vote. The Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019 was withdrawn by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, as listed in the Supplementary List of Business of the Lower House for the day. Center also introduced Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 in Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The Upper House unanimously passed the National Anti-Doping Bill, 2022 by a voice vote.

Opposition not interested in achievements of Indian athletes: Nisith Pramanik

Responding to a question, Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Nisith Pramanik said that the opposition has damaged the productivity of Parliament and is not interested in matters related to sports. He says that our players are winning medals in 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham but when we are discussing sports matters the opposition is disrupting the House.

He requests them to allow the House to function during the discussion, while the opposition members raise slogans like “ED sarkar naych, down”.

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Congress MP Mallikarjun Kharge says that since the House is in session, he has received summons from the ED to appear before the agency at 12.30 pm. Officials have gheraoed the houses of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. They are doing this to scare us, we will not be afraid of threats. He says that he will respect the law and will appear before the law enforcement agency.

Rajya Sabha leader Piyush Goyal says that the present government does not control the agency. “He may have done this during his government, our government does not,” says Mr. Goyal.

Opposition members enter the Well of the House and chant slogans like “Tanashahi (dictatorship) nahi chalegi, nahi chalegi”. They also demand that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should come to the House and answer their allegations.

Rajya Sabha resumes amid protests

After an hour-long adjournment, Rajya Sabha proceedings resumed amid protests by opposition parties over allegations of misuse of central agencies like ED and CBI.

Speaker V. Vijayasai Reddy urged the protesting MPs to allow Question Hour. The opposition is continuously raising slogans demanding an answer from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Members are protesting against the arrest of Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut in an alleged money laundering case.

Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu adjourned the House after protests erupted from both sides over the opposition’s allegations of misuse of autonomous bodies and investigative agencies.

Leader of the Opposition M. Mallikarjun Kharge rose after the Speaker’s permission to speak on the subject and alleged that agencies were being used to suppress opposition parties across the country.

BJP members objected to his remarks and protested amid sloganeering from their benches, leading to Mr Naidu adjourning the House till 12 noon.

Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, amid constant opposition slogans against “use of ED, CBI and IT department”, informs the lower house that 10,000 electric buses will be introduced in the country soon. “People will travel in air-conditioned buses and at the same time it will also contribute to a greener environment”, Mr Gadkari said.
