Monthly Shivratri 2022: History, Significance, Worship Method and Shubh Muhurta

Monthly Shivaratri falls on the Chaturdashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha every month. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva appeared in the form of a linga on the eve of Mahashivratri. While January 1 is considered as the new year according to the English calendar, Maha Shivratri also marks the new year for the devotees of Lord Shiva. This year Mahashivratri is on 1st March in the month of Falgun according to the Hindu calendar.
