The trust said in a press release that there has been a 40 per cent increase in the number of applications this year. While in 2020-21 they had received 3200 applications, this year they have received 4505 online applications. “This increase can be attributed to the fact that many students who had left their higher education in 2020, returned this year,” the trust said.

The trust also shared that as per the application numbers, they found that commerce is the most popular course among Muslim girls – 58.5 percent of undergraduate applications are enrolled for B.Com.

Bazm-e-Niswan President Husna Sherif said that the women’s organization was registered in 1971 to meet the challenges faced by the downtrodden and destitute. “We are a group of women with vision and foresight. Since 1971, we have given scholarships to 63,000+ girls to complete their higher education and are now successfully qualified in various professions,” she said.

The sheriff said that due to the pandemic, lakhs of students dropped out of higher education and the trust felt the need to assist needy girls to close their education. “To make it easier, faster and safer for students and parents, we launched the Baj-e-Niswan online software application,” she said. The application was open for 60 days (October and November 2021) for students to apply across Bangalore and then submit the hard copy to the office of the Bazm-e-Niswan Charitable Trust.

Candidates were required to fill an online application and the documents submitted were verified along with the hard copy of the application and the documents received. Fresh students who secured more than 50% marks in the previous examination were selected.

Others present at the scholarship distribution program were Amin E Mudassar, Career Counsellor, Sigma, Rahmath, Joint Secretary and Parveen, Trustee of the Trust.
