More restrictions in Delhi? DDMA meeting on Jan 10 as Covid cases, positivity rise

Omicron threat: Due to increase in the number of COVID cases and positivity rate in the national capital, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has called a meeting on January 10 to decide on more restrictions, news agency ANI reported, citing sources. .

DDMA, the apex planning body responsible for disaster risk mitigation initiatives, in its last meeting, had decided to extend the lockdown in Delhi over the weekend.

According to the report, a meeting of DDMA was held today under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal. The current situation of Kovid-19 and the increasing cases of Omicron were discussed in detail in the meeting.

Delhi on Friday reported 17,335 new infection cases with a positivity rate of 17.73%. Today’s figure is the highest in seven months. The cases are rising rapidly as the daily count till Tuesday stood at around 5,000 cases.

Last week, the authority ordered closure of schools, colleges, cinemas and gyms with immediate effect and imposed various restrictions on the functioning of shops and public transport as a yellow alert was issued under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

The next level of restrictions may be imposed in the city as the positivity rate is close to 20%. The government has already announced a weekend curfew effective from tomorrow (Saturday, 8 January). Night curfew has also been imposed from 10 pm (earlier 11 am) to 5 am.
