More than 50% of technical staff likely to return to offices by Jan 2022: NASSCOM-VACTUS report

According to the ‘NASSCOM Return to Workplace Survey’, women employees are also excited about returning to offices and adopting new working models.

Industry apex body Nasscom’s ‘Return to Workplace’ survey in collaboration with job portal Indiad.com on Monday said more than 50% of technical workers are likely to return to offices thrice a week by January 2022.

Debjani Ghosh, President, Nasscom said, “We encourage tech companies to go through the process of reopening in a phased and safe manner, giving top priority to the health and safety of employees.”

About 72% of enterprises surveyed expected 50% of their workforce to return to office in 2022 and 57% of respondents said they would be ready to reopen office spaces within three months.

According to the survey, employees up to the age of 25 were most likely to return to the workplace by November, followed by those over the age of 40.

Some 28% of employees were willing to return to the workplace within a month, while 24% of employees preferred to return to the office after six months. Some 67% of companies reported high employee satisfaction while working remotely.

As per the report, both employees and employers are equally interested in returning to the workplace in a hybrid setup, while 50% of the workforce is likely to return to offices for 3 days a week starting next year.

In a statement, NASSCOM said that NASSCOM and Indeed surveyed technical workers and technical employers to understand their plans to return to offices, their expectations, key ideas, preparedness on both fronts and to collect their views on the emerging hybrid model. did.

Still, some 81% of organizations said employee health and safety remained an important consideration for them when reopening offices. Also, 72% of enterprises were operating at maximum 50% employee capacity starting next year, the survey further stated.

Today, the hybrid work model was the preferred choice for over 70% of organizations, while IT services and the GCC (Global Competence Center) were likely to be early adopters of the long-term hybrid work model, the study found.
