61% of Gen Z employees comfortable sharing salary details with family member: Report

Your salary slip may be a confidential document but a report revealed that 61 percent of Gen Z professionals are more comfortable sharing their salary details with their family member.
According to the LinkedIn ‘Workforce Confidence Index’, while 61 per cent of Gen Zs are comfortable sharing their salary details with their family member, 23 per cent of this generation of professionals are ready to share the details with their close friends.
The LinkedIn Workforce Confidence Index is based on responses from 4,684 professionals in the country from June 4 to September 9, 2022.
The report further revealed that in India, about 72 percent of Gen Z and 64 percent of Millennials are comfortable sharing their salary information with family members, while 43 percent of Gen Zs and 30 percent of Millennials also believe in themselves. are ready for close friend.
It also found that Gen Z professionals were most likely to share their salary information with coworkers they trust (23 percent), followed by Millennials (16 percent) and Gen X (10 percent). ) Huh.
Generation Z or Gen Z are those born between the mid-1990s to the early 2010s, while those born between 1981 and 1996 are called Millennials.
“Professionals are still not comfortable negotiating salaries in the workplace, although our data suggests a generational shift is underway. Family and friends remain India’s closest confidants when it comes to the size of their salaries. When it comes to sharing, the current generation, LinkedIn News India Managing Editor Neerjita Banerjee said young professionals are more willing than other generations to share salary information with their co-workers and industry peers.
In fact, she said that Gen Z professionals are the most likely to share their salaries across their network than any other age group.
“Gen Z is eager to effect change and to lead these conversations in the workplace,” she said.
The report found that 45 per cent of professionals in India say salary discussions among peers are discouraged at their workplace.
Furthermore, 36 percent of professionals in India say they feel anxious about sharing their salary information with anyone, the report found.
Millennials are more likely to feel this anxiety (42 percent) than Gen Z (33 percent) or Gen X (32 percent) professionals.
The report said that a third (36 per cent) of India’s respondents believe that wage transparency will lead to better pay parity.
