Moscow: Russia sanctions Biden, Trudeau, US, Canadian officials – Times of India

Moscow: RussiaThe US State Department announced sanctions on Tuesday on US President Joe Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, with several officials in a reciprocal response to Western measures.
The measures, also applicable to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, “are the result of the extremely Russophobic policy adopted by Washington,” Moscow said in a statement.
In a separate statement, Russia’s foreign ministry announced punitive measures against 313 Canadians, including Trudeau and several of his ministers.
In response to Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine, the US imposes sanctions on the Russian president Vladimir Putin and foreign minister Sergei Lavrov The adoption of sanctions largely cut Russia off financially from the rest of the world.
Moscow did not specify the exact nature of the measures, which it calls “individual sanctions” and a “stop list”, saying they would be based on the “principle of reciprocity”.
Also on the Russian list are US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, Central Intelligence Agency Director William Burns and White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.
Also on the list is Deputy National Security Advisor Dalip Singh, head of the US Agency for International Development. Samantha PowerDeputy Treasury Secretary Advale Adeyemo and US Export-Import Bank chief Reta Joe Lewis.
Russia also banned the entry of Biden’s son Hunter and former Secretary of State and Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
The State Department warned that Moscow would soon announce additional sanctions against “Russophobic” US officials, military officials, lawmakers, businessmen and media figures.
