Most F1 World Championship titles won by drivers so far

As we enter the final race weekend of the year, here’s a look at the top five drivers in terms of their championship wins.

We can’t remember the last time a Formula One season was so exciting until the end. The fight between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton is still not over. As we enter the final weekend in Abu Dhabi, the score stands at 369.5, so it is the result of the final race that will decide the winner of the Formula One World Drivers’ Championship 2021. It also means that we will find out whether Hamilton will be able to break Michael Schumacher’s record for the most drivers’ championships in his career. While we know both of those names, do you know other drivers who have won the most titles? Let’s tell you!

During his journey to win seven F1 World Championship titles, Lewis Hamilton holds three records by winning the greatest number of races (103), pole positions (103), and podium finishes (181). After racing for McLaren from 2007 to 2012, he has been driving blazing-fast Mercedes cars ever since.

A name that was once synonymous with the Ferrari racing team, Schumacher began his Formula One career with the Benetton team and won his first and second titles with them in 1994 and 1995. He then joined Ferrari in 1996 when it was struggling. From 2000 to 2004, he won an unprecedented five consecutive titles. He retired in 2012 before meeting an unfortunate skiing accident during which he injured his head. He remained unconscious for several days, but he survived and regained consciousness. Unfortunately he is still paralyzed and wheel chair bound, but those close to him are positive about his recovery.

This Argentine racing car driver dominated in the 1950s. A unique feature of his Formula One run was that he won five of his titles driving for four different teams – Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Maserati. This is a feat that has yet to be replicated in the world of Formula One.

Halfway through an intense sporting rivalry with Ayrton Senna, Prost won his first F1 World Championship title with McLaren in 1985, which also earned him the highest civilian award in France. He followed up his success with another Drivers’ Championship victory in 1986. In 1989, he won another title with McLaren and his final title with Williams in 1993.

Sebastian Vettel (4)

Tied with Alain Prost with four Formula One Drivers’ Championship titles is Sebastian Vettel, who is among the most loved Formula One drivers in the world for his off-the-track antics. While he is currently driving for Aston Martin and is far from competing for the top spot, his dominance from 2010 to 2013 was the stuff of legends. He raced all these victories with a Red Bull car, but was not able to repeat this success when he later raced with Ferrari.

Jack Brabham (3)

Australian racing driver, Jack Brabham, won his first two Formula One Drivers’ Championship titles while driving for the Cooper Car Company in 1959 and 1960. And then in 1962, he founded his own team called Brabham and in 1966 became the first and only person to win the Formula One Drivers’ Championship by driving one of his cars.

0 notes

Formula One is an intense sport and getting an F1 World Championship title is incredibly difficult. It now remains to be seen whether Lewis Hamilton eventually breaks Schumacher’s world record or whether Max Verstappen overtakes him to win his first Drivers’ Championship title.
