Moto Tags are Android-centric like AirTags work on iPhones and iPad

Motorola is bringing its Bluetooth tracker for Android phones like the Pixel 8 Pro which can help you track wallet, bags and even pets.

Motorola has officially stepped into the wireless tracking device segment with the launch of its tracking tag this week. The tech giant has rolled out the new Moto Tag as a Bluetooth tracker for Android devices with an ultra-wideband (UWB) chip for precise tracking capabilities. In addition to that, it comes equipped with Google’s newly upgraded Find My Device network. The Moto Tag features a circular, Apple AirTag-like design to track valuables like wallets, keys, luggage, and more.

Moto Tag Price

As per a report by The Verge, the Moto Tag is priced at $29 (approximately Rs 2,423), while a pack of four will be available for $99 (around Rs 8,273). The company is set to launch the tracker in the US starting on August 2.

Moto Tag Features

The newly announced AirTag will provide precise location-tracking capabilities when paired with a UWB-supported smartphone such as the Google Pixel 8 or the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, claimed Motorola. The tracker features a dedicated multi-function button, which the company says can ping the smartphone to locate it. The multifunction button can also be used as a remote captureshutter to take photos on your Motorola smartphone. In case you are unable to find your phone, pressing a button on the Moto Tag will ring your phone and help you find it.

The tracker also supports Google Fast Pair to simplify the setup process. Users can change the name of the tag, adjust the alert volume, and check battery life with the standalone Moto Tag app. For durability, it comes with an IP67 rating, enabling it to withstand immersion in water for up to 30 minutes. It is powered by a CR2032 coin-cell battery, which is said to last a year on a single charge.

The tech giant’s new tracker also supports automatic unknown tracker alerts on both Android and iOS platforms. This means users will be alerted if any unwanted tracker attempts to track their location. In addition to that, users can run a manual scan to check for unwanted trackers following them.

Furthermore, Motorola claimed that its Bluetooth tracker protects the user’s privacy by offering end-to-end encryption of their location, which means only the owner of the Moto Tag and those with whom the location is shared can locate it. It also seems that the Moto Tag is designed specifically to fit perfectly with most third-party accessories in the market so that users can easily attach it to all their valuables, according to Motorola’s press release.

Meanwhile, location trackers like Tile and Apple have been around for years to allow people to locate lost or stolen items easily through their smartphones. While Apple’s AirTag is only compatible with Apple devices, Tile offers multiple location-tracking solutions for Android. To make a mark in this segment, Motorola’s new Moto Tag has to compete with Tile.
