Chouhan, who completes one year of plantation every day, had earlier urged his supporters and well-wishers not to waste money on hoardings, banners, bouquets and other gimmicks and instead advised them to plant one sapling each. express their wish.

Ankur plantation campaign was organized across the state to commemorate the 63 years of Chouhan’s birthday. “I planted saplings every day, and recently completed one year of the mission,” Chouhan said while addressing a program as part of a tree plantation drive at Salkanpur temple, which falls in his native town of Budni in Sehore district. Underlining the concerns of climate change, Chouhan said, “The global temperature could rise by 2 degree Celsius by 2050 and if immediate measures are not taken, the world is heading towards a climate disaster. That is why being a leader, I decided to walk the talk and start tree plantation on my own,” he said, urging others to follow suit and contribute to the environment.

“We need collective efforts to save our mother earth,” Chouhan said.

The Chief Minister had taken a pledge to plant saplings on the banks of river Narmada and this year on February 19, one year has been completed and the work is going on. He admitted that he has planted around 500 saplings in the last one year. In the last one year, Chouhan starts his day by planting saplings in Bhopal and sticks to his routine if he is present elsewhere in the state. He plants at least two saplings daily. As he was in the grip of Covid-19, the Chief Minister had observed his symbolic one year completion of the campaign on 24 February along with NGOs and senior dignitaries.

In the last one year, around three lakh people have joined hands with the Chief Minister and planted more than five lakh trees.

Chouhan had campaigned for the past one year by personally taking people from all walks of life including politicians, bureaucrats, religious heads, senior volunteers and even common people to the plantation site.

A MAP IT initiative, the campaign enables anyone interested in tree plantation to be a part of the campaign by downloading the ‘Vayudoot App’ and planting a sapling and uploading photos to the government database through the app. After one month’s time, fresh photographs can be uploaded and plantation certificate can be downloaded by the user.

Between March 1 to 4, a total of 6.58 lakh have enrolled to be a part of the mega plantation drive on March 5.

CM Shivraj picked up the garbage

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday set an example of cleanliness in Bhopal’s Bijasen locality by picking up garbage and putting wet and dry waste in different compartments of garbage collection vehicles. On this occasion, the Chief Minister washed the feet of the sanitation workers as an acknowledgment of their efforts.
