MP first state to make tribals the owners of land: Home Minister Amit Shah praised CM Chouhan

Praising Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said, “It is for the first time in the country that any state has made tribals as forest land owners.”

Shah was in Bhopal for a convention of tribals and also participated in a mega roadshow, which culminated in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) head office, where the minister addressed the party cadre.

Addressing the tribal population at Jamboori Maidan, Shah said: “Giving the tribal community the right of ownership of forest land is an exemplary step by Chouhan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has envisioned that the poorest of the poor should be empowered and Chouhan is making this dream a reality.

Announcing a bonus for tribals collecting tendu patta and converting 827 forest villages into revenue villages, “it will make you feel that you too deserve ownership in the state,” he said.

The state government has given 20% share in the forest income to the forest village committees. The state has 21% tribal population. Shah said that unless the tribals are on the path of development, the state cannot progress. “Our announcements for the tribals will not stop and will be fulfilled,” he said.

125 crore for 22 lakh tribals

Addressing the crowd, Chouhan said that bonus distribution of Rs 125 crore has started for 22 lakh tribal beneficiaries. “For the first time, forest dwellers will be entitled to compensation in case of natural calamities. After the forest villages are converted into revenue villages, land records will be maintained, and there will be mutation and division of the land. The process will be governed by the gram sabhas, while the forest department will only provide assistance,” Chauhan said.

Shah’s visit to Bhopal is part of the BJP’s efforts to woo tribals ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The party had organized a 2-km road show for Shah. Roads were decorated and flowers were showered on the minister. Shah held a meeting with the core committee at the headquarters.

‘Dandmaar police will not do’

Addressing the 48th All India Police Science Congress in Bhopal, the Union Home Minister said that the police need knowledge, evidence and logic. He announced that the city would get a National Forensic Science University. Police needs technology to stay two steps ahead of criminals, Shah said, adding that even constable and head constable level staff need to be tech-savvy.
