Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni almost saved his side when he made a brilliant comeback against Rajasthan Royals. Courtesy a brilliant last over from pacer Sandeep Sharma, RR clinched the nail-biter by just 3 runs. Dhoni (32 off 17 balls), Ravindra Jadeja (25 off 15 balls) returned unbeaten after giving a good fight. CSK, after this win, have 2 wins in 4 matches as RR have moved to the top of the IPL 2023 Points Table. As soon as the match got over, netizens dug out old tweets by Dhoni which reflected his mindset. The tweet read: “No matter which team wins, I’m here to entertain.”

Dhoni, in his 200th appearance as CSK captain, won the toss and opted to bowl first. With dew on the ground in the second innings, defending becomes a problem and Dhoni, who has played a lot of cricket at Chepauk, knew that. Jos Buttler hit a quick fifty but CSK bowled well to restrict them to 175 for 8 in 20 overs. Devdutt Padikkal was the second best batsman for RR with his 26-ball 38 which included 5 fours.
With 62 needed off the last 24 balls, Dhoni and Jadeja took over. They took the match deep but lost by 3 runs in the end. In the last over, CSK needed 21 runs in the last 6 overs. Dhoni hit Sandeep for two sixes off the second and third balls respectively but the Punjab pacer came back strongly to concede just 3 runs in the last 3 balls and clinch a cliffhanger win for RR. , Much to the disappointment of RR fans.

RR, as mentioned earlier, are on top of the points table with 3 wins from 4 matches. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have also won the same number of matches but their NRR is slightly lower than the RR. Gujarat Titans can at least move into the top 2 with a win against Punjab Kings on Thursday. CSK, despite losing to RR last night, have not progressed beyond 5th position.
