Muhurta Trading: Sensex up 296 points; Nifty closes at 17,917 – Times of India

New Delhi: Launch of equity indices Samvat 2078 On a positive note on Thursday, both Sensex and Nifty registered gains across sectors.
The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 296 points, or 0.49 per cent, to end at 60,068; While the broader NSE Nifty closed 88 points or 0.49 per cent higher at 17,917.
Markets operate a one-hour special Muhurta Trading Sessions on Diwali every year to mark the beginning of the new Hindu calendar year.
It is believed that Muhurta trading brings prosperity and wealth throughout the year.
Top gainers in the Sensex pack included M&M, ITC, Bajaj Auto, L&T, Kotak Bank and Sun Pharma, with their shares rising 3.13 per cent.
While ICICI Bank, Ultra Semco, Asian Paints and Dr Reddy’s were the only losers up to 0.69 per cent.
On the NSE platform, all sub-indices ended in the green with Nifty Media, PSU Bank and Auto gaining 1.48 per cent.
Both the indices closed the Hindu calendar year Samvat 2077 with impressive gains. The Sensex rose 16,133.94 points or 36.97 per cent, while the Nifty rose 5,048.95 points or 39.50 per cent.
During the last one year, Dalal Street investors were around Rs 99 lakh crore rich, riding on strong buying across the board.
Official data shows that this growth was the best in the last 12 years, while the gains in wealth for investors was the best ever in terms of market capitalization of the BSE.
Domestic indices will remain closed on Friday (November 5) for Diwali Balipratipada.
