An RTO official said that this could also be the most expensive car bought in India. RIL has also paid Rs 12 lakh to get the VIP number for the new car of its chairman and managing director. Officials said the number ends with “0001.” He said that usually a VIP number costs Rs 4 lakh, but since the number chosen in the existing series has already been taken, a new series had to be started.

With the written permission of the Transport Commissioner, the RTO offices may initiate a new series to specify the registration mark 0001, for which the applicant will have to pay three times the fee specified for the regular number, he said.
