MUMBAI: 99.5% of COVID patients got Omicron. Check latest BMC data

Amid the recent COVID surge in Mumbai, over 99% samples tested positive for the Omicron sub-variant, the city’s civic body informed on Monday. In the 12th Genome Sequencing Series, 279 swab samples were tested, of which 278 were found to be infected with Omicron subtypes. In one case a delta strain was found.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said, 202 samples were collected from Mumbai. The rest was collected from outside the city. The 12th series batch was tested in the Genome Sequencing Lab at BMC-run Kasturba Hospital.

According to BMC, out of 202 patients, 24 (12%) were in the age group of 0 to 20 years, 88 (44%) were in the age group of 21 to 40 years, 52 patients (26%) were in the age group. The group was 41 to 60 years, 32 (13%) in the age group 61 to 80 years, and only five patients (2%) were above 80.

It reported that all 24 samples from patients aged 0 to 20 years were infected with the Omicron subtype of coronavirus, but none of them had any severe symptoms.

Out of 202 patients, two had taken only the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 129 patients had taken both doses, nine were hospitalized and only one of them was admitted to the ICU, civil The body said.

The BMC said 71 out of 202 patients had not taken the COVID-19 vaccine and nine of them were hospitalised, but only two of them were admitted to the ICU and one of them died Was.

It said that out of 201 patients infected with the Omicron sub-variant, three with the BA.4 and one with the BA.5 sub-lineage were detected between May 14 and May 24.

None of these four patients had traveled outside India or Maharashtra for 15 days before infection and all of them were cured during home isolation, the civic body said.

Mumbai COVID Tally

Mumbai on Monday reported 1,118 new COVID-19 cases, a decline of nearly 38 per cent over the previous day, while the metropolis had not recorded any fresh deaths due to the infection, taking the active tally to 11,331. was, the local civic body said.

With this, the number of COVID-19 cases in the city rose to 10,81,865, while the death toll remained stable at 19,573.
