Mumbai: BEST plans 25 news routes to enhance connectivity to metro stations

To provide last-mile connectivity to metro commuters, Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has said that it will introduce 25. new bus services This year in Dahisar and DN Nagar Metro 2-A Line area.

In order to ease traffic congestion on the roads and provide easy access to people taking Metro services, BEST also plans to relocate some bus stands and stops between Dahisar and Andheri. “We have identified the areas where the bus stops will be shifted. This is being done keeping in mind the traffic jams. Around 25 new routes will be started,” said Lokesh Chandra, best general manager, Hindustan Times, Chandra said BEST will focus on feeder routes where mini and midi buses can ply.

SVR Srinivas, Metropolitan Commissioner, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), said that with BEST, the authority aims to improve last-mile connectivity from metro stations. “BEST will shift some bus stops and build new routes for the upcoming metro corridor,” he told the publication.

The Maharashtra government has vowed to make the entire fleet of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) “electric” by 2028. The government aims that the entire BEST buses will run either on electric power or on hydrogen fuel energy cells for the given time frame.
