Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has announced that the Heritage Tour will resume from Wednesday, November 3. BEST venture to enter tourism bus service will cater to the needs of tourists in South Mumbai. Officials confirmed to Times of India that two open deck buses have also been deployed. BEST spokesperson Manoj Varde said, “They can enjoy a ride in these open deck buses, which have ticket rates of Rs 150 for the upper and Rs 75 for the lower deck.”

BEST will take its Tourist Circuit Bus Tour to three UNESCO-listed heritage sites, including CSMT, Churchgate and the Victorian and Art Deco Ensembles of Mumbai. Buses will run twice in the evening. The timing of the first tour is between 6.30 pm to 7.45 pm and the timing of the second tour is from 8 pm to 9.15 pm. The tour will also cover the Museum, Vidhan Bhavan, NCPA, with rides starting from the Gateway of India. Tickets will be available at SP Mukherjee Chowk (Regal Circle), Gateway of India and CSMT.
On BEST day in August this year, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray flagged off fully electric and air-conditioned buses. The CM praised BEST for introducing Environment Protection, which promotes green energy technology in the transport sector.
Aaditya Thackeray, Cabinet Minister for Tourism and Environment, tweeted, “Today as we celebrate the foundation day of BEST, we launched the next batch of fully electric buses, adding 270 electric buses to our fleet. BEST launched by mid 2023. The target is to make 1800 buses (45% of the current fleet) electric by the year 2018. The buses are noise and emission free.

Buses 12 meters long can carry 35 passengers apart from 24 standees. The facilities to be offered include ITMS based on GPS technology, air suspension, panic button, wheelchair access for persons with disabilities and other advanced provisions that will make bus operation easier for the driver. This will significantly reduce noise and air pollution.
