Mumbai: CGST Bhiwandi arrests mastermind of fake GST challan racket

worth a fake invoice racket 132 crore more 23 crore was busted by the Bhiwandi Commissionerate of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) in Mumbai zone.

Syndicate’s prime suspect Hasmukh Patel was arrested on September 9. He is currently lodged in jail till September 23.

As per the CGST report, the anti-theft arm of CGST Bhiwandi commissionerate M/s Maketech Steel Trading Pvt Ltd was investigating various fraudulent firms like M/s UGSK Trader, M/s World Enterprises, M/s Rolex Enterprises and M/s M/s. /s HHT Enterprises and M/s Yesh Enterprises where various direct and indirect links were established between these firms and Hasmukh Patel.

Based on specific intelligence inputs, an anti-theft wing of CGST Bhiwandi Commissionerate conducted a search operation at the residential premises of the accused, wanted in eight ongoing investigation cases for his alleged role in GST fraud.

“An investigation revealed that accused Hasmukh Patel allegedly created a web of these fake firms, through which he generated fake invoices. 132 crore and availed / passed on fake ITC 23.16 crore without any supply of goods and services,” the CGST report said.

“The accused confessed that he has created 36 fake GST firms and set up a network to pass on fake input tax credit which is spread over different sectors. GST Commissionerate,” it also said.

Based on the physical evidence found during the investigation, the said accused mastermind was arrested on September 9, 2022 under section 69 of the CGST Act, 2017 for violation of section 132 of the CGST Act, 2017.
