Saudi Arabia’s Al Shabab defeated Mumbai City 6-0 in Riyadh on Friday to reach the knockout rounds of the Asian Champions League. It was a hat-trick from Hutton Bahebri that confirmed Al Shabab as the winners of Group B on Friday night.

The Saudi side took the lead in the 19th minute when the former Al Hilal pair of Nawaf Al and Hattan Bahebri teamed up with the club captain to deliver a fine through pass to their teammate which ended with an aplomb from inside the Bahebri box.

An unfortunate moment for Mumbai City captain Murtada Fall allowed Al Shabab to double their lead 10 minutes before the break.

The Senegalese defender made a desperate attempt to clear Carlos Jr.’s finish from the goal line, but sent it over the roof of the net.

Coach Marius Sumudica’s men started the second half with a similar drive to the first, and within seven minutes, they extended their lead through Abdullah Al Joui.

Al Jaoui hammered a pass from Mutaeb Al Harbi down the left side and cut his right from the inside before applying the finish from inside the field.

Another Al Jouy from the left saw him dance around the Islanders’ defenders and find Al Abid, who fed Bahebri inside the box and the latter added on his second night in the 64th minute.

A minute later, Bahebri completed his hat-trick with a goal pick, controlling Khalid Al Ghamdi’s pass from the right, striking a half-volley while maneuvering around Rahul Bheke to make it 5-0.

With nine minutes left on the clock, the hat-trick turned out to be the hero provider, advancing to the right and squaring for Junior, who beat the ball to Fall, squeezing home the sixth of the night.

Unbeaten on five and with 13 points to his name, Al Shabab marched on to the next round, joining city rivals Al Hilal and Qatar’s Al Duhail SC in the Round of 16. They finished their group stage against Al Jazeera on Tuesday, while Mumbai City have been officially eliminated and will be looking to improve their place at the table when they face Air Force Club.
