Mumbai: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena)MNS) Vice President Akhil Chitre broke on tuesday Dahi Handi near the chief minister Uddhav ThackerayMatoshree’s residence located in Kalanagar area of Bandra in protest against the restrictions imposed by the state government.
As a result, the Kherwadi police later registered a case against Chitre and another party worker. Omkar Khandekarwho had gone with him.
In a video of the incident, one of the two men is standing by the side of the main road and the other is sitting on his shoulders and breaks a ‘dahi handi’ (earthen pot filled with curd) tied to a tree trunk.
“Police booked me and another party worker under section 188 (disobeying order of public servant) of Indian Penal Code and asked us to report at Kherwadi police station. We will complete all the legal formalities.
So far, six FIRs have been registered at Kasturba Marg, Ghatkopar, Worli, Kala Chowki, Dadar and Sakinaka police stations in Mumbai against several MNS workers, including senior leader and former MLA Bala Nandgaonkar, for organizing Dahi Handi event.
CM Thackeray had last week appealed to the organizers of the Dahi Handi festival to “set aside” the celebrations to avoid the spread of coronavirus and prioritize people’s health.
MNS workers on Tuesday organized ‘Dahi Handi’ programs at various places in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar defying the ban.
