Mumbai: Police questioned Union Minister Narayan Rane, son in Disha Salian case; leave after nine hours

Union Minister Narayan Rane and his MLA son Nitesh Rane were questioned for several hours by police here on Saturday for allegedly making derogatory and misleading statements about the death of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s former manager Disha Salian. ,

Rane and his son, both BJP leaders, reached Malwani police station in the western suburb around 1.45 pm and left nine hours later at around 10.45 pm. On his arrival, the supporters of the Union Minister gathered outside the police station.

“It was an attempt to put pressure on us, but we will not suppress our voice, that is, we will raise our voice against any injustice,” Rane said.

Malvani police had earlier sent notice to Nitesh Rane to appear before the investigating officer on Thursday. Her father was asked to appear on Friday. But their lawyers had said that since the state assembly is in session, the two leaders will appear before the police on Saturday.

A court here on Friday granted interim relief from arrest till March 10 to both Union minister Rane and his son. Fearing arrest in the case, Rane had filed an anticipatory bail application before the Dindoshi sessions court in suburban Malad.

According to the FIR lodged by Malwani police, Union MSME Minister Rane made some remarks about Disha Salian’s death at a press conference on February 19, where her son was also present.

Salian allegedly committed suicide by jumping off a high-rise building in suburban Malad on June 8, 2020, six days before actor Rajput (34) was found hanging at his apartment in suburban Bandra.

Talking to reporters after leaving the police station on Saturday night, Narayan Rane claimed that Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray called him twice after Salian and Rajput’s death and requested them not to talk about Salian’s death. .

Officials in the chief minister’s office or spokesperson for the Shiv Sena, Thackeray’s party, were not immediately available for comment. Narayan Rane, a former Shiv Sena leader, became a bitter critic of Uddhav Thackeray in 2005 after parting ways with him and leaving the party.
