A police officer said on Sunday that a complaint has been lodged against Iqbal Malik, younger brother of former Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik, for allegedly threatening a city worker.

Right to Information Act (RTI) activist Vinod Sonkamble, in his complaint, said that Iqbal Malik had threatened him at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) ward office in Kurla last month when he raised the issue of illegal constructions in the area. They said.

The activist said that in May this year, he approached BMC officials and complained about over 80 illegal structures in Kurla, which allegedly belonged to Ghulam Mustafa Malik, whom Iqbal Malik knew. On 25 July, civic authorities ordered those structures to be demolished.

He alleged that on July 26, when Sonkamble reached the ward office, Iqbal Malik threatened him there.

An official at Kurla police station said Sonkamble has submitted his complaint to the Mumbai Police Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5), but no case has been registered so far.

Iqbal Malik said, “All the allegations made by the activist against me are false and baseless. I haven’t threatened anyone.”
