After 100 outlets across the country, Theobroma opened its first patisserie in the city at Anna Nagar. The second will open in Nungambakkam next week and will feature all the favourites.

Last week, the famous colors of Mumbai’s popular patisserie Theobroma sprang up in Anna Nagar’s Shanti Colony. The 1,000-square-foot outlet in aqua green and pastel pink made some people wonder if this was actually Maximum City’s chain of sweets. This was followed by several inquiries on the brand’s Instagram page. And in fact, this is Theobroma’s first outlet in the city, followed by the second outlet in Nungambakkam to open on October 20.

Started in 2004 by Canaz and Tina Messman, the brand is on an expansion mode. After branching out in Pune, Delhi NCR and Hyderabad, it launched its 100th store in Bengaluru in August this year, followed by Mohali, Chennai and then in Nashik. Rishi Gaur, CEO, Theobroma, says, “For the past few years, we were getting requests on our social media to open in Chennai.”

The outlets here will be serviced by Central Kitchen in Bengaluru. A cold chain has been set up between the two cities, with a cold van going down every morning at 3 am from Bengaluru with stock. “We are looking for kitchens in Chennai, which we will set up here as we expand to 8 to 10 outlets here,” says Rishi.

Patisserie and cafe do not follow a franchise model. “All our outlets are self-managed and self-operated,” says Rishi, “products are fragile in nature and have a short shelf life. From their production to their consumption, they need to be handled under the right conditions, which we We can do it only when we have control over it.

The Chennai menu will have everything that is available at other outlets across the country. In addition, Diwali specials for the festive season will also be launched like financier boxes and traditional desserts with contemporary makeovers. “In a typical year, we have 25 festivals and rituals around which we create new products. There is a lot of innovation,” says Rishi.

But even at a time when new trends are popping up in the dessert world, it’s classic desserts like chocolate truffles, pineapple cakes and overloaded brownies that have remained favorites and bestsellers since Theobroma’s inception.

And maybe now, we can stop ordering our friends, family and relatives from Mumbai for that box of Gooey Rich Brownies.

Theobroma AB is located at 103 & 105, 4th Avenue, Shanti Colony Main Road, Anna Nagar
