Hyderabad: Congress has fielded a woman candidate for the by-election munugode AICC President Sonia Gandhi approves the name of the assembly constituency in Telangana Palvai Shravanti,
She is the daughter of five-time MLA Palvai Govardhan Reddy from Munugode seat. The family has a great influence among the voters. Shravanthi is the only woman candidate announced so far from the three main political parties.
whereas Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy BJP’s likely candidate, TRS president and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has not announced the party’s candidate for the crucial bypoll.
Congress leaders said fielding Sravanthi is an added advantage as the constituency has over 1.10 lakh women voters. Though realty businessman Ch Krishna Reddy was also in the race for party ticket, the party high command finalized Shravanthi as he hails from a strong Congress family background.
Also, senior leaders from Nalgonda district and Munugode constituency favored Shravanti, saying she would be a formidable candidate.
The Election Commission has not yet issued the election notification but is expected to do so soon. The by-election was necessitated as sitting Congress MLA Komatireddy Raj Goipal Reddy resigned from both Congress and MLA posts and joined the BJP.
