School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi on Saturday announced the opening of the Thanjavur old district collectorate building, which has been converted into a museum under the Smart City project.

The old building that housed the Collectorate on Court Road has been renovated at a cost of ₹9.40 crore, of which ₹8.40 crore was taken from the central government’s smart city project allocation for the Thanjavur Corporation domain and the balance from Was. District Administration Fund

Two acres of open land in the campus has also been converted into a habitat for rare bird species brought from around 20 countries. While the entry fee for adults and children for visiting the museum has been fixed at $20 and ₹10 respectively, a uniform rate of ₹200 per person as entry fee for the aviary enclosure and ₹75 per person for viewing has gone. According to an official release, the films will be screened in the 7D theater set up on the campus.
