My Axis India exit poll results on Manipur: BJP to continue in power

The India Today-My Axis India exit poll has predicted a massive victory for the BJP in the north-eastern state of Manipur, with the ruling party bagging 33-43 seats. Meanwhile, according to the survey, Congress will gain 4-8 seats and others will win anywhere between 10-23 seats.

According to the Zee News-DESIGNBOXED exit poll, the BJP will retain Manipur with 32-38 seats, while the seats for Congress allies will vary between 12-17. The majority mark in Manipur is 31.

P-MARQ has predicted that BJP will get maximum number of 27-31 seats out of 60. Congress will emerge as the second largest party by winning 11-17 seats.

In the 2017 Manipur Assembly elections, the Congress emerged as the single largest party winning 28 seats, followed by the BJP with 21 seats. The National People’s Party (NPP) and the Naga People’s Front (NPF) got four seats each, while the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) secured only one seat. BJP got 36.28 percent votes while Congress got 35.11 percent of the total votes. Later, the BJP formed an alliance with the NPP, NPF and LJP to form the government under the leadership of Biren Singh.

However, this time the BJP decided to go it alone and is contesting all the 60 seats alone.

Congress, on the other hand, has formed an alliance of six political parties and named it as Manipur Progressive Secular Alliance (MPSA). Alliance partners in the MPSA include the Congress, Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist), Forward Bloc, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and Janata Dal (Secular).

Elections to the 60-member Manipur Legislative Assembly were held in two phases on February 28 and March 5. Voting took place in 38 seats in the first phase while 22 seats will go to polls in the second phase.
