Chandigarh’s Harnaaz Sandhu won the Miss Universe 2021 title.
21 years after Lara Dutta won the title in 2000, actor-model Harnaaz Sandhu was crowned Miss Universe 2021 on Monday. The 21-year-old from Punjab represented India at the 70th Miss Universe 2021 held in Israel. She was crowned by her predecessor Andrea Meza from Mexico, who won the competition in 2020. “I am very grateful to the almighty, my parents and the Miss India organization for guiding and supporting me. Loads of love to all who prayed and wished the crown to me,” Ms. Sandhu said.
Harnaaz Sandhu is only the third Indian to have won the Miss Universe title in 1994 – actor Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta won the pageant before her in 2000.

Harnaaz Sandhu gave a shout out to his family on his Instagram story yesterday. “My strength, my lifeline,” she wrote to her mother, brother and her maasi (aunt).
The last post shared by Harnaaz Sandhu on Instagram shows the Chandigarh-based model at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. “I have enjoyed my journey and as we near the end of this beautiful contest, I want to relive the memories with my family, my Punjab. I want you all to know that I am one of you. Grateful to each and every one of my experiences in these 1.5 months,” she wrote while sharing the video. “See you in the finale of Miss Universe 2021!” He concluded his post.
On Sunday, she also shared a glimpse of the lehenga she wore for the National Costume Round of Miss Universe 2021. Rani pink Abhinav Mishra lehenga with signature mirrorwork was accessorized with custom umbrella by Reza Sharifi.
During the final question and answer round, Ms. Sandhu was asked what advice she would give to young women on how to deal with the pressure they face today. He said, “The biggest pressure the youth of today is facing is to believe in yourself, to know that you are unique and that is what makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourself to others and go around the world. Talk about more important things happening in me.”

Before leaving for Israel for the Miss Universe pageant, she shared a picture with the tricolor from the airport
Harnaaz Sandhu credits her mother for being her “biggest inspiration”. “She is the creator of my dreams and the ladder to achieve them,” the 21-year-old wrote in an Instagram post in October.

Harnaaz Sandhu began her journey in the competition when she won the Times Fresh Face in 2017, representing Chandigarh at the age of 17.
She later won the title of LIVA Miss Diva Universe 2021.
Harnaaz Sandhu is pursuing Master’s degree in Public Administration. He has also acted in Punjabi films like Yaara Diya Poo Baran and Bai Ji Kuttange.
