Three unrelated deaths, two of which were homicides and one suicide, over the course of two days in Kalambalam, have now become a complex web of interconnected incidents. When the last report came, a special investigation team constituted by District Rural Police Chief (Rural) Divya. V. Gopinath was piecing together the final thread of the mystery. The chain of events began on Monday morning, when a newspaper agent found Public Works Department (PWD) head clerk Ajikumar (49) lying in a pool of blood at his home in Alappuzha. The police soon began an investigation into the murder after he suffered a knife injury. Around 1.30 am on Tuesday, a Sanjeev rammed a pickup truck over a group of men with whom he had been drinking some time ago. One of them, Ajit, was killed, while his friend Pramod was seriously injured. At around 6.30 am on Tuesday, gym instructor Binuraj allegedly jumped in front of a moving bus of KSRTC at Irupettam Mile. Though all these were reported as separate incidents, the police soon realized that all these people were somehow connected with Ajikumar, who was found dead at his house. According to an investigating officer, on Sunday night, Ajikumar, who stays at his residence in Mullaramcode over the weekend, hosted a liquor party for his friends, which included Sanjeev, Ajith and Pramod along with two others. After they left the party, Binuraj, Ajikumar’s neighbor, who was drinking at his house with his friends, went to Ajikumar’s house with another man. With the police suspecting a history of animosity between the two, Ajikumar and Binuraj fight and Binuraj allegedly stabs him. On Monday night, Sanjeev, Ajit, Pramod and other friends gather again for a drink while they discuss their friend’s death. Some of them, including Ajith, had allegedly alleged Sanjeev’s hand in Binuraj’s death, as he was the last one to leave the house the previous night. This led to a fight between the factions. Enraged after making false allegations, Sanjeev allegedly pushed his pickup truck into the group and killed Ajit and injured Pramod. Though the reasons for Binuraj’s alleged suicide are yet to be ascertained by the police the next day, it is suspected that he may have felt about him being cornered by the police. Police have detained ten people including Sanjeev and are interrogating them to solve the puzzle.
