Seoul: South Korea said North Korea has fired a ballistic missile towards its eastern waters, the latest in recent weapons testing.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the launch was carried out early Sunday, but gave no further details on how far the weapon had flown.
The Japanese government also says North Korea may have fired a possible ballistic missile.
The launch of the North’s sixth round of weapons testing in two weeks came hours after the United States and South Korea wrapped up a new round of naval exercises off the east coast of the Korean peninsula. An American aircraft carrier was involved in the exercise.
North Korea’s military warned on Saturday that the US re-deployment of the aircraft carrier off the Korean peninsula was having “significantly negative implications” for regional security.
