Nabanna Campaign: Clash between BJP workers and police in West Bengal’s Raniganj, Bolpur; many in custody

Raniganj (West Bengal) [India]Sep 13 (ANI): A clash broke out between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers and police outside Raniganj railway station, as the workers left for Kolkata on Tuesday to take part in the Nabanna campaign.

In Raniganj, the police took several workers into preventive custody.

Further, a clash broke out between BJP workers and police inside Bolpur railway station as police prevented the workers from going to Kolkata to participate in the Nabanna Chalo march. Several activists were detained.

“Hundreds of BJP workers are marching towards Kolkata to join BJP’s Nabanna march via trains, with police blocking roads to railway stations. 20 of our workers were stopped by the police near Durgapur railway station. I reached here using other routes,” said BJP leader Abhijit Dutta.

Meanwhile, the police made heavy deployment of soldiers to stop the BJP’s Nabanna campaign. The borders of Kolkata have been closed amid tight security to prevent the procession.

Many roads of Kolkata have been closed by putting up barricades. To stop the procession, the West Bengal Police has converted a 5 km radius around Nabanna into a fort.

BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul said on Monday, ‘Preparations have been made for the Nabanna Chalo campaign. This is not just an opposition to the BJP, but a protest of all the people of Bengal. Mamata Banerjee will have to answer why her government has betrayed the people of Bengal. (ANI)
