Nagpur: There will be a ban on single use plastic in the city from July 1. Additional Municipal Commissioner Ram Joshi said on Thursday, “Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s nuisance detection team will take action against plastic banned in the city from July 1.
The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on August 12, 2021 issued a notification to completely ban the production, import, storage, distribution, sale and use of single-use plastic materials with effect from July 1, 2022.
Action will be taken accordingly, the decision of which was taken in a meeting convened by Joshi and attended by the Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS). Chief Virsen TambeSuperintending Engineer Manoj Talewar, and Deputy Municipal Commissioner (SWM) Dr Gajendra Mahle among others.
“All shops, markets, establishments, trade associations etc in the city should inform the municipal corporation whether they have banned the stock of plastic,” Joshi said. The NDS team of 10 zones will take action on the markets, shops and establishments. Penal action will be taken in this case if any use, flow and storage of banned plastic material is found.
