BIHARSHARIF: The sudden increase in the cases of Kovid in Nalanda this week has worried the health officials of the district. The district, which had no active case a week ago, reported 205 active cases on Friday.
On January 5, the number of active cases, including 17 reported from Harnaut Coach Factory, stood at 60, which rose to 205 on Friday. At least 10 new Kovid cases were reported from Harnaut Coach Factory Colony on Friday. On Friday, 76 new cases were registered in the district.
Nalanda Civil Surgeon Dr Sunil Kumar, who also tested for Covid on Wednesday, said that unlike last year, this time the severity of the infection was less and all infected persons were under home isolation.
Taking cognizance of the rapid spread of the pandemic in the district, the newly appointed Nalanda DM Shashank Shubhankar has asked the civil surgeon to reserve 20 beds for emergency patients at Biharsharif Sadar Hospital, which has been declared a dedicated COVID health centre.
Biharsharif Beedi Employees Hospital as well as Hilsa and Rajgir sub-divisional hospitals have also been declared as DCHCs.
While reviewing the measures being taken to contain the spread of COVID with the district officials on Friday, the DM appointed Nalanda DDC, ADM, Municipal Commissioner and some district officials as heads of various cells including sanitation and hygiene.
