Name the Habibganj railway station after Rani Kamalapati: MP Government

Ahead of the launch of India’s first world class railway station, the Madhya Pradesh government has written to the Union Home Ministry to change the name of the station. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the recently redeveloped Habibganj Station On and before November 15 in Bhopal, the Chief Minister of the state Shivraj Singh Chouhan has written a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs asking to name the station after Rani Kamalapati.

The reason behind the decision to change the name of Habibganj railway station has also been given by the state government. According to a letter from the MP government, Rani Kamlapat was the Gond queen of the region in the 18th century.

She was a Gond ruler, the widow of the chief Nizam Shah of Ginnaurgarh. The Gond community comprises the largest tribal group in India with a population of over 12 million. Linguistically, the Gonds belong to the Gondi-Manda subgroup of the South Central branch of the Dravidian language family.

The letter said that the renaming of the station would honor the legacy and bravery of Rani Kamalapati.

A day after BJP MP from Bhopal Pragya Singh Thakur demanded that the station be renamed after former Prime Minister Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the state government decided to rename the station as Rani Kamalapati station.

PM Modi to inaugurate Habibganj railway station, which has been redeveloped 100 crores on November 15, the day the government launched ‘Tribal Pride Day’, a week-long celebration of the pride of Scheduled Tribes in India.

Allahabad Railway Station has been renamed as Prayagraj and Mughalsarai Railway Junction Ras has been renamed as Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction.
