The Supreme Court has rejected the bail of Anand Giri, who was arrested for abetting the suicide of his guru and Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad president Narendra Giri.

A division bench of Justices AS Bopanna and Ahsanuddin Amanullah, while upholding the order of the Allahabad High Court, observed that there was no reason to interfere with the impugned order at this stage.

“Heard learned senior counsel for the petitioner and also the Additional Solicitor General for the respondent(s) and we have also perused the petition papers and the impugned order. After hearing them for some time, we find it necessary to interfere with the impugned order. There doesn’t seem to be any reason.” Charan,” the bench said.

The top court, however, made it clear that if there is a change of circumstances or if there is no progress in the matter before the lower court for a reasonable period of time, the petitioner has the right to renew his prayer for bail before the hearing. Will be an option. court.

“If such application is filed at that stage, the present proceedings shall not be treated as a bar to consider the application in accordance with law,” it said.

Mr Anand had moved the top court against the high court’s September 9, 2022 order which had denied him bail saying there was enough evidence against the applicant and hence he could not be granted bail.

The petitioner in his bail application had said that he has been falsely implicated in the case.

The petitioner claimed that the handwriting in which the name of Anand Giri was written in the alleged suicide note was not that of Narendra Giri and there were several cuttings and overwritings.

He further argued that he was in Haridwar when the incident took place and the police informed him over phone.

Earlier, a local court had also rejected the bail application of Anand Giri.

On 20 September 2021, the dead body of Mahant Narendra Giri was found hanging from the fan at Baghambari Gaddi Math in Prayagraj. A suicide note was recovered in which he accused Anand Giri, Adya Tiwari and Sandeep Tiwari of mental torture.
